Hi,
Sorry, the test coupon was 8"dia x 1/2" thick. My mistake. Root, HP - SMAW, Rest- FCAW.
Now, with this can the welder use SMAW alone to weld on some other joints within the Code ?
Hope I am eligible for an answer this time.
Thanks,
S Vagal

Hi,

AWS D1.1 does not restrict weld metal deposit. It restrict base metal thickness.

Hi all,
We qualified some welders to 6GR on  6" dia x 7 mm thick pipes using SMAW  for root + hp (deposited about 4 mm) followed by FCAW. Now, if we want to use these welders for full SMAW - i) Is it allowed? ii) What is the new qualification to?
