[MW:4679] Recommandation of Welding Process for Offshore Pile and Transition Piece weld joints

Dear Friends ,

I would like to know if any other welding process is in use for welding Pile  Pile joints and Transition joints in offshore Internationally to speed up the welding Process .

The common one is SMAW welding and FCAW welding

With SMAW welding :-

  • It take long time upto 8 hours for welding the joints and in some case if the thickness is more it goes to 10 hours , affecting the barge time
  • Consumable handling required
  • Maintaining of Electrode Temp is required
  • 8 to 9 welders are required
With FCAW welding
  • Welders Skill required
  • Few Spec does not allow
May know if any other Automatised or Semi Automatise welding Process can be used .

Is it possible to use SAW  Welding Process by changing the joint configuration as show in the figure attached

Regards

Sujeet
