[MW:3974] MW:3972-welding procedure for the material at - 30degree C

Dear Elshan,

Please refer to Annex- III, requirements for impact test, in AWS D-1.1. Clause III-3.3 allows only impact test to be carried out on weld coupons and be treated as a supplementary essential variable to the existing PQR. The extract from the code is:--

·    III3.3 If  CVN testing is a requirement and a qualified WPS exists which satisfies all requirements except for CVN testing, it shall be necessary only to prepare an additional test weldment with sufficient material to provide the required CVN test specimens. Test plate shall be welded using  WPS, which conforms to the limitation requirements  of Tables 4.1, 4.2, and 4.5, plus  supplementary essential variables applicable only to CVN testing ( ref Table 4.6). A new or revised PQR shall be prepared and a new or revised WPS written to accommodate the qualification variables for CVN testing.

Repeat the impact testing as per the above analogy @ -300C, and revise your WPS to include the new PQR as a supporting document.

Thanks

the fabrication code is AWS D1.1. But couldn't find any explanation for such situations.

Dear Ellik,

Usage of same PQR depends upon your code of fabrication, Parent & consumable Material used for qualification & thickness of materials.

Some fabrication code does allow to use the same PQR without further impact testing as long the material (parent & consumable) itself  qualified to use (up to certain lower temperature).

Dear Friends,

I have a welding to do on the material where the service temperature is -30 degree C. I have got a welding procedure which charpy V test was carried out at -20 degree C. can I use this procedure for welding of the material which the service temperature is -30 degree C?

regards,
Elilk.
