You have missed the point.

There are several manufacturers of straight length, cut, flux cored filler metal (Kobelco being one) specifically designed for use with GTAW. These were designed for root welding when an inert gas purge could not be performed. Typically the flux cored filler metal is used for the root pass only (as use in subsequent passes leads to weld defects such as entrapped slag, lof, etc). This is NOT FCAW it is simply GTAW with a specialized filler metal. This is provided for in ASME Section IX QW-256, Welding Variables Procedure Specifications GTAW, by essential variable QW-404.23 which requires identifying whether the filler metal is solid or metal cored, flux cored, or powder.

This type of filler metal has been used to weld superheat tubes in fossil fuel power plants with great success.

Dear Mr Raghuram,
I don't understand GTAW with Flux cord wire, it should be FCAW.
My suggestion is to do it with gas purging for better penetration and fast production.

Or Use SMAW process because i have qualified so many welders in SMAW with better penetration. or use combine process SMAW for Root and Hot Pass Filling and Capping with FCAW.
