Just to add on my previous mail to the material for spent caustic, please note that LTCS is used because of ambient temperature in Kazakhstan during winter.

For spent caustic (pH > 7) and for neutralized caustic (ph 5.5 – 6.5  i.e. slightly acidic pH), LTCS A333-6 pipe material,   2 mm CA

 

When more acid is likely (i.e. for acid solution or acid + caustic mixture upstream of neutralization vessel   when neutralization is not complete), PTFE lined LTCS

Sir,
spent caustic trearment plant having always leakage in treated spent caustic (with pH 5 to 9 ) line , while piping  has been made by cs material , we want to replace the piping with suitable material and  low cost while line pressure is 6 kg/cm2.
kindly sugest the material with details.

Hi,  You are correct, Minimum refers to the one cycle for which this part will expose until final work shop PWHT. hence mill test certificate shall include this.  Max. SPWHT, refers to additional cycles of heat treatment that are reserved for future repairs during equipment lifetime.  Again, these simulated no. Of cycles shall be specified in MTC.  The idea is we need to make sure that steel mechanical properties are not compromised upon exposure to multiple repairs (i e 4 cycles in your case).  One could say, if steel is subjected to 4 cycles and is ok, then it should by defacto be good for one cycle, yet, this is wrong assumption cause mechanical problems and microstructure of materials varies accordingly based on no.
