It depends on several factors , like what type od SS ( Austenatic,
Ferritic, MArtensitic or Duplex) , the service condition, both the
base material thickness etc.
Normally GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, SAW process can be used for CS to SS welding.
If you are welding CS with Austenatic SS ( like 304 / 304L / 316/ 316L
etc.) then E309 / E309L or it's equivlent consumables will be
suitable, if the service temperature less than 350 Deg C. ,
For "L" grade material "L" grade consumable are recommanded like E309L ,
If the base material habe "Mo" like SA240 TP 316L, then E309LMo or
ER309LMo is suitable ,as this is good resistance for pitting
corrosion.
Single sided girth welding for GTAW process , backing & shielding gas
(Single Argon) is prefreable.
If the service temperature is more than 350 then "Ni "based electrodes
are suitable, like ENiCrMo-3 / ERNiCrMo-3
If it is other than Austenatic Stainless Steel , then the selection of
the welding consumables will be different.
welding process should be selected by your base material thickness ,
accesibility of welding etc.
