The ASTM specification which should be used depends on the radiation
source, casting process and wall thicknesses (t).
For normal steel castings you may use one of the following
specifications:
- Steel castings, t = <51 mm ==> ASTM E446
t = 51 - 114 mm ==> ASTM E186
t = 114 mm - 305 mm ==> ASTM E280
When using investment castings ASTM E192 applies.
Be aware that in front of any radiographic examination always the
severity level for applicable specification should be agreed between
manufacturer and client in order to avoid technical discussions
afterwards.
